How do I read the Bible?
You know how they say if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well? Well, sometimes if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing poorly.
You don’t have to be an expert. The most important thing is to dive in. The greatest journeys start with the first step.
First and foremost, get yourself a usable Bible. That family heirloom that has your great-grandfather’s first communion date in it and weighs more than Lord Stanley’s Cup. If you’re afraid to touch it, you’re probably not going to make a daily habit out of reading it.
Get yourself a Bible that is small enough so you don’t give yourself a hernia, but big enough to actually read. Something you feel comfortable writing and highlighting in.
Next, it’s great to set aside a little bit of time every day, maybe 15 minutes.
Start with some little prayer from the heart.
“Lord, please assist me as I read your holy word,” and then read away.
Different times call for different methods. Sometimes, it’s nice to read the Bible quickly. It will really give you a feel for just how quickly the stories in the Bible move and how connected things are.
Other times, it’s nice to read the Bible slowly and really delve into each and every word.
There are many ways to read the Bible. Don’t be afraid to change it up.
The big thing is consistency. Diving into the Holy Word daily.
